“Дорожка” этого объекта – эллиптическая. Она проходит от орбиты Урана в точке наибольшего сближения со светилом до двух расстояний от Солнца до Нептуна (или между 20 и 70 астрономическими единицами от Солнца).

Астрономы высчитали, что в последние несколько сот миллионов лет орбита Drac была стабильной, хотя появилось данное космическое тело, по всей видимости, в другом месте. Вполне вероятно, в том ведь самом, откуда берёт своё возникновение комета Халли (Comet Halley) и какие-либо иные кометы с ретроградной орбитой.

Открытие 2008 KV42 имеет возможность пролить свет на тайну их рождения. Дело в том, что прежние вычисления показывали: комета Халли и её сёстры не имеют все шансы происходить из двух зон, являющихся колыбелями для других типов комет — то есть из пояса Койпера (лежащего незамедлительно за орбитой Нептуна) либо тучи Оорта, оказавшегося на гигантском расстоянии в 20-200 тысяч астрономических единиц от Солнца.

Так вот, вычисления указывают на третье место рождения для Drac (а означает, вероятно, и для кометы Халли, и для ряда других непривычных тел). Оно лежит дальше пояса Койпера, хотя ближе тучи Оорта.

Какие-либо астрономы неофициально называют эту гипотетическую зону “внутренним облаком Оорта”, а его место расположения оценивается в 2-5 тыс. астрономических единиц от дневной звезды.

“Астероид-вампир” в свое время покинул эту часть системы в связи гравитационных возмущений. И, как признают Глэдман и его коллеги, расчёты говорят, что подобные возмущения в будущем готовы сдвинуть орбиту 2008 KV42 ещё ближе к Солнцу. Тогда он окажется похож на кометы вида Халли.

Этим образом, “Дракула” представляет собой недостающее звено в цепочке эволюции космических скитальцев, обращающихся вокруг Солнца “против шерсти”.

Любопытно, что команда Глэдмана обнаружила наиболее 20 объектов пояса Койпера с круто наклонённым орбитами, хотя ни один из них (кроме Drac) не имеет ретроградную орбиту.
